They held a meeting and nobody came: Lack of Temple P&Z Commission quorum delays city business 2 weeks

Applications for two liquor store permits and a subdivision plat were delayed by two weeks on Monday when two-thirds of the city's Planning and Zoning Commission missed a regularly scheduled semimonthly meeting.

When it became clear that six of nine P & Z commissioners would be absent, city staff had to cancel the meeting.

Before the commission can conduct hearings and discussions - and vote on plat and permit approvals and zoning changes - it must have a minimum of five members present. This is called a quorum.

Interim planning director Brian Mabry said the absences were a combination of sickness and members having other commitments.

Chairman Mike Pilkington, vice chair Allan Talley and Jack Barton made up the trio that attended.
