Water heater may have started deadly Gatesville fire

GATESVILLE - A state fire marshal's office investigator will inspect a former Gatesville coach's home today looking for the cause of a Saturday night fire that killed one of his sons and injured another.

A water heater may have burst and ignited gasoline in the garage, a neighbor said.

Waco LaVega ISD coach Eric Balch and son, Cade, 3, are in Parkland Hospital in Dallas with severe burns. Younger son Mason died after the 6 p.m. blaze in the 100 block of Fairway Drive.
