Belton’s Dylan Anthony shot a 5-over-par 75 to get into second place as the Tigers compiled a 312 team total, two strokes better than College Station A&M Consolidated. Bryan is in third at 334, eight shots head of Temple. A&M Consol’s Kay Jang fired a 71 to seize a four-shot lead in the individual standings.
Playing for Temple’s No. 2 team, Alonzo Mendoza paced the Wildcats with a 77 and is tied for fourth with Belton’s Jonathan Sustaita. Jacob Kelley and Nick Twidwell of Temple’s No. 1 team both shot 84s and are tied for 12th place. Belton’s next-best score was Chance Bartek’s 79.
The second round of the three-round tournament is set for Monday at Clear Creek in Killeen.
