About 15 to 20 police were involved in a standoff with an armed man who was holed up alone in a Temple house this morning.

The incident began about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, officials said, adding that the white male, who is about 31 or 32 years old, was inside a house at 2105 S. 49th St.

“It initially started at the Fifth Wheel Lounge where a family member works,” said Sgt. Allen Teston, spokesman for the Temple Police Department. “Basically, we’re securing the area and trying to talk him down.”

They were in communication with the man by phone.

Teston said at least one round was discharged, although he’s not sure where or when. He added that no one was hurt.

Temple police cordoned off two to three blocks around 51st Street and Scott Boulevard while trying to resolve the incident. They were diverting traffic around the area.

Scott & White EMS had an ambulance on standby, and Temple Fire & Rescue had a fire truck on site.
