The victory lifted the Yoemen to 4-3 on the season. Hutto fell to 3-3.
Yoe running back James Wells paced the Yoe attack with 211 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Townsend completed 12 of 20 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown and added 56 yards and a score on the ground.
Defender Matthus Lopez gave the Yoemen a chance to win the game by intercepting a Garrett Carey pass at the 8-yard line. The Hippos held a 17-13 lead at the time and had driven deep into Cameron territory before Lopez came away with the pick.
Following the interception, Yoe drove 92 yards for the winning score.
Academy 22, Florence 12
FLORENCE - Chase Gommert figured in all the scoring for the Academy Bumblebees, as they took a 22-12 District 25-2A victory over Florence at Stampede Stadium.
Trailing by a touchdown in the first quarter, Gommert lofted a 10-yard scoring pass to Noah Hamill to stake the Bees to a 7-6 lead. The Buffaloes (4-2, 2-1) reclaimed the lead in the second quarter when Cody Kyle recovered a fumble in the end zone to make it 12-7, but Gommert struck again, this time in the form of a 10-yard pass to Chase Reeders to make it 15-12 just before the first half expired.
Gommert sealed the win with a 16-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, raising the Bees’ record to 4-2 and 2-1 in district play.
Central Texas Christian 58, Marble Falls Faith 42
MARBLE FALLS - Area rushing leader Tyler Beechem broke the 1,000-yard mark for the season with a 200-yard performance on 21 attempts to lead the Central Texas Christian Lions to a 58-42 win over Marble Falls Faith Academy in TAPPS Division I District 4-Six-Man action at Faith Field.
Beechem scored on runs of 4 and 72 yards and caught a 56-yard scoring pass from Taylor Truitt, and Caleb Paschall scored on a 35-yard run and an 80-yard kickoff return.
Both teams are now 4-3 overall, with 1-1 marks in district play.
Gatesville 24, Lorena 13
GATESVILLE - In a game in which all of the scoring came in the final 2½ minutes of each quarter, the Gatesville Hornets started District 17-3A play with a 24-13 victory over the Lorena Leopards at McKamie Stadium.
After Lorena (1-5) scored a touchdown with 2:18 left in the game to pull within 17-13, Gatesville (2-4) recovered the onside kick. David Hogan put the game away with a 31-yard TD run with 48 seconds left in the game.
The Hornets led off with a 5-yard Cody Kilgore scoring run with 2:06 left in the first quarter. Lorena tied the game with a 2-yard run by Jon Bennett with 1:30 left in the first half.
Gatesville took the halftime lead with no time left on the clock with a 21-yard field goal by Chance Taylor.
Milano 29, Burton 0
MILANO - The Milano Eagles used a ball-control offense and a stifling defense to down the Burton Panthers 29-0 in District 27-A action at Pruitt Field.
Led by quarterback Chad Burgess, the Eagles (5-2, 2-1) racked up 330 rushing yards on 55 carries.
The Panthers (2-4, 0-2) managed just 86 yards total offense: 45 yards on 22 rushes and 41 yards passing. The Eagles’ Ty Gordon had two second-half interceptions that stopped Panther scoring threats.
Austin Lake Travis 58, Lampasas 14
AUSTIN - The Lake Travis Cavaliers inched closer to a playoff berth with a resounding 58-14 win over Lampasas in a District 25-4A contest at Lake Travis ISD Stadium.
Quarterback Ryder Brown and receivers John Vanliew and Seth Fry offered the only bright spots for the Badgers (0-6, 0-3). Brown passed for 165 yards and threw scoring passes of 35 yards to Vanliew and 18 yards to Fry.
The Cavs (5-1, 3-0) built a commanding 28-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
No. 2 Liberty Hill 37, Rockdale 25
LIBERTY HILL - The Rockdale Tigers took a 19-16 lead into halftime but couldn’t hold it against the No. 2-ranked Liberty Hill Panthers, who escaped with a 37-25 victory in their District 18-3A opener at Panther Stadium.
The Tigers (1-6) used 1-yard touchdown runs by Mark Drake and Bobby Joe Tindle, and Drake’s 22-yard scoring pass to Justin Elliott to take the halftime lead.
The Panthers (6-0), who didn’t complete a pass but rushed for 538 yards, grabbed control with two Doug Allman touchdown runs in the third quarter and Dustin Gonzales’ 61-yard scoring sprint in the fourth.
Rockdale cut the gap on Drake’s 20-yard TD pass to Joe Sanders with 1:51 remaining but got no closer.
Clifton 46, Moody 0
MOODY - The Clifton Cubs rolled up 280 yards rushing to beat the Moody Bearcats 46-0 in a District 21-2A opener at Bearcat Stadium.
Clifton, 2-4 for the season, was able to score in each quarter against Moody (1-5).
Lathan Andrews led a balanced attack for the Cubs with two touchdown runs and finished with 12 carries for 107 yards.
Walter Hammond led Moody’s offense with 61 yards on 18 carries.
Killeen Shoemaker 17, Harker Heights 14
KILLEEN - A 25-yard field goal by Sidney Johnson proved to be the difference as the Shoemaker Grey Wolves claimed a 17-14 District 13-5A win over Harker Heights at Leo Buckley Stadium.
Dion Demers gave the Wolves (2-5, 1-2) the early lead on a 6-yard run, but the Knights (1-4, 1-1) came right back with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Balentine to Justin Key with 6:37 remaining in the second quarter. Johnson broke the deadlock at the 3:55 mark with his field goal, and then, with 1 second remaining in the first half, Shoemaker’s Andre Smith scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper to extend the Wolves’ lead to 17-7.
With 6:13 left in the third quarter, Heights’ Bobby Cook intercepted a Smith aerial intended for M.J. Porter and returned it 12 yards to close the gap to 17-14, but that was as close as the Knights could get.
Waco Midway 45, Killeen 21
HEWITT - John Hubert scored four touchdowns to lead the Midway Panthers to a 45-21 win over Killeen in the District 16-4A opener for both teams at Panther Stadium.
The Kangaroos (4-2, 0-1) kept it close for three quarters, trailing just 28-21 heading into the final frame. But the Panthers (4-2, 1-0) scored 17 unanswered points to put the game away and notch their first district win.
Buckholts 59, Oglesby 14
BUCKHOLTS - The Buckholts Badgers passed for 233 yards on seven completions while rolling to a 59-14 victory over the Oglesby Tigers in a non-district six-man game at Jim Hauk Field.
Allan Shelton scored on a 52-yard fumble return, a 58-yard pass from Dillon Orsag and a 47-yard kick return to lead Buckholts (2-4) to a win ended by the mercy rule.
