An alliance between Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) Alliance Nutrition Inc. and Jupe Feeds Inc. of Temple is expected to double the volume of business done at the Temple facility by combining the manufacturing and operating capabilities of Jupe Feeds with the sales, marketing and research resources of ADM.
Dennis Jupe, president of Jupe Feeds, said Monday his company has added about 10 new employees since last summer and is expected to hire an additional 15-20 new employees by the end of this year. He said the company will probably add a second shift to keep up with increased demand as a result of the alliance.
AUSTIN (AP) - Texas has $14.3 billion in new money to spend in the coming two years but some economic sectors are cooling and lawmakers should be cautious in crafting a budget, state Comptroller Susan Combs said Monday.
In supplying her biennial revenue estimate to the Legislature, Combs said she expects moderate overall growth in 2008-09.
Construction costs for the new Temple High School Ag Farm could peak at around $1,597,848 as opposed to $770,648 projected in June. The Temple school district board of trustees met on Monday and discussed options to get costs down or construct the facilities in phases.
The new plan calls for a change in location and the addition of classroom space. The original site for the facility was located directly off of 31st Street, but administrators ruled that the property could be used for something vital in the future. The new site is located in the northeast corner of the campus adjacent to the practice soccer fields. The move means that an access road will have to be built and new water lines will have to be installed and extended a longer distance, driving costs up.

AUSTIN (AP) - Tom Craddick made history four years ago when he became the first Republican to lead the Texas House since 1871. Now he could be the first Texas speaker to be voted out of the powerful office.
Michael Phillips, a Texas historian writing a book about the office of House speaker, said no one in the job has ever had it taken away by a vote of his peers. Then again, he said no one has ever exercised the almost unbridled power that has come to characterize Craddick | |
