It was their offensive numbers that made the difference.
Cantler smacked a first-inning home run just over the fence in left field for the only run of the game as the 12th-ranked Cougars edged the No. 4 Lady Eagles 1-0 Friday, putting Jarrell in control of District 25-2A softball.
The three teams battling for the championship - Jarrell (16-4 overall, 11-1 district), Rogers (20-3, 10-2) and Troy (22-2, 10-2) - each have two games left and have lost only to each other in district.
Next Friday the Lady Cougars travel to Troy, where a win would give them at least a share of the title if all three teams win Tuesday. A Jarrell loss likely would create a three-way tie for first place, with the three teams splitting their season series.
