The Temple boys basketball team has endured several difficult games in District 13-5A play, losing at home to Waco and Bryan and on the road to Belton and College Station A&M Consolidated.
However, none of those defeats mattered to the Wildcats on Friday night against rival Belton. From the beginning, it was simply Temple’s night.
BELTON — In a contest dominated by cold shooting, the Belton Lady Tigers found a way to keep their district title hopes alive.
With neither team able to hit from the perimeter, Belton used a solid defensive effort in the paint to topple Temple’s Tem-Cats 43-31 in a District 13-5A girls basketball tilt Friday night at Tiger Gym.
McGREGOR — For the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars to capture a sweep of McGregor and the District 21-2A championship, they knew they needed to run and play end-to-end basketball.
The thing is, the Lady Bulldogs knew that too.
Edjuan Green of the Temple College men’s basketball team is a much better player as a sophomore than he was as a freshman. And he was more than pretty good then, which is an indication of how good he is now.
Green, a 6-7 power forward from Spring, excelled as a freshman for the 2001-02 Leopards, then decided to sit out TC’s 2002-03 season as a redshirt to improve his academics and his game.
Another school in Central Texas is searching for a new football coach, while another area coach has found a new job.
Milano’s Chad LaGrone confirmed Friday he is resigning his post as head coach of the Eagles, only a few days after former Rockdale coach Casey Creghan accepted the head job at Hillsboro.
LONDON (AP) — Lennox Lewis is going out on top, and he insists he won’t be back.
He retired Friday after a professional career of more than 14 years, the first active heavyweight champion to quit in nearly 50 years.
TEXARKANA — The Central Texas Blackhawks tied it at four early in the third period, but the Texarkana Bandits answered with four minutes remaining to seal a 5-4 win on Friday night at Four State Arena.
The loss moved the Blackhawks (15-21-5 for 34 points in the North American Hockey League South Division) 11 points out of a playoff spot behind Texarkana (22-18-1 for 45 points).
