The redistricting map upheld by a three-judge federal panel Tuesday separates Bell and McLennan counties for the first time in 128 years, and places Bell in a new 31st Congressional District.
The new District 31, anchored by a whole Williamson County, also includes Coryell, Erath, Falls, Hamilton and Milam counties and part of Robertson County.
The revitalization of downtown Temple has been given a shot in the arm with the announcement that Texell Federal Credit Union Temple will move its headquarters into a currently vacant three-story bank building.
The building at 17 S. 1st St., was built by First Federal Savings and Loan and later housed Guaranty Bank.
AUSTIN (AP) — The state’s top three elected officials will meet Thursday at Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst’s Hill Country ranch in an attempt to find common ground on school finance and taxes.
Dewhurst, Gov. Rick Perry and House Speaker Tom Craddick will meet at the Snaffle Bit Ranch near Fredericksburg, an Austin newspaper reported in Tuesday’s edition.

sportsWill tonight’s men’s college basketball battle between consistent rivals Temple College and Collin County propel the winner to the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship?
It certainly could, as Temple’s Leopards come into the teams’ NTJCAC opener at 7:30 p.m. today at TC Gym with a 13-2 record and Collin’s Express — the defending league champion — enters at 13-1.
The Temple College women’s basketball team hasn’t seen the playoffs since the 1999-2000 season.
Since then, the Lady Leopards have played well enough to beat the teams they should beat but not well enough to put them over the top.
BELTON — Unlike many contests, which come down to the wire, this one was all but decided in the game’s opening minutes.
Kerrville Tivy raced to an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes and Belton never recovered as the Lady Antlers chalked up a 56-47 victory Tuesday night at Tiger Gym.
NEW YORK (AP) — In their final confrontation, Paul Molitor wanted to beat Dennis Eckersley so badly he bunted in the ninth inning to win a game that was meaningless to the Minnesota Twins.
When they see each other this summer, they’ll be going into the Hall of Fame together.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Tom Coughlin didn’t say no to the New York Giants this time around, signing to coach them on Tuesday.
The former Jacksonville Jaguars coach signed a four-year contract, vowing to bring back a brand of smashmouth, mistake-free football that led New York to two Super Bowls under his mentor, Bill Parcells.
NEW YORK (AP) — Two-time American League MVP Juan Gonzalez agreed Tuesday to a contract with Kansas City, and Roberto Alomar accepted a deal with Arizona for a huge paycut.
Gonzalez is guaranteed $4.5 million by the Royals. Kansas City general manager Allard Baird isn’t worried about the durability of the 34-year-old outfielder.
