sportsTemple and Belton's girls basketball teams finally shook off the holiday rust earlier this week, posting 29- and 38-point wins, respectively, on Monday.Both teams hope for the same results tonight, as District 13-5A play begins. The Tem-Cats (17-5) travel to Bryan (14-8) for a 7 p.m. tilt, while the Lady Tigers (11-10) head up I-35 to face Waco (15-4) at 7:30 p.m. Copperas Cove's Lady Bulldawgs (11-10) will play at A&M Consolidated (13-9) at 7 p.m.Temple and Belton have a rough road ahead during the first round of district. The Tem-Cats will play three of their first four district games on the road. After Temple hosts Consol next Tuesday, it next plays at Copperas Cove and at Belton.Belton faces three of its first five district foes away from Tiger Gym. The Lady Tigers will host Bryan next Tuesday, then sandwich road trips to Consol and Cove around a Jan. 14 home clash with Temple."We'll need to persevere in the first round," Temple coach Don Layton said. "If we lose confidence, we could find ourselves in a big hole."Said Temple forward Courtney Crews: "Winning on the road is tough. The Temple boys soccer team, under second-year coach Tarcisio "Ciso" Mosnia, begins the season tonight as the Wildcats hold the Temple Kickoff Showcase Tournament against Waco Reicher at 7 p.m. at Woodson Field. There will be two games Saturday. Austin Westlake plays Reicher at 9 a.m. and Temple plays Austin Westlake at 3 p.m. to wrap up the two-day soccer event.
