Ground broken for S&W center

Scott and White Memorial Hospital officials broke ground Friday for a $140 million project which includes 360 patient rooms inside the planned Scott and White Center for Advanced Medicine. More than 700 people gathered to hear hospital officials talk about the eight-story building containing more than 520,000 square feet. About 1,300 people viewed ground-breaking events Friday, which also included about nine exhibits demonstrating state-of-the-art medicine technology. by Jake Long

Tem-Cats drill Waco for 1st district win

With their backs against the ropes, the Temple Tem-Cats finally answered the bell Friday night. They used balanced scoring and sticky defense to rescue its district hopes with a 46-45 victory over Waco at Wildcat Gym. After four consecutive setbacks to start District 13-5A action, this was one the Tem-Cats (18-9, 1-4) had to have. They are tied with Belton for fifth and one game behind Copperas Cove in the district race.
