Chet Edwards, D-Waco, Thursday announced Central Texas 4C Head Start was the recipient of a $750,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to implement an Early Head Start program in Bell County. Eight years ago, Temple girls soccer coach Kevin Korompai had a vision to bring a quality high school tournament to Temple. The Tem-Cat Invitational will take place today and Saturday at both Woodson Field and the Korompai Soccer Complex at Wilson Park. Temple at 5 p.m. at Woodson will open up with Nacogdoches, rated 10th in Class 4A Region II according to the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches (TASCO) preseason poll. Games will begin at 9 a.m. today, when Belton plays Round Rock Stony Point, Cedar Park meets Wichita Falls and Leander squares off with Abilene. The Belton Tiger Athletic Booster Club will hold its 2002 fall sports banquet on Jan. 18 at the Bell County Expo Center at 7 p.m. The banquet honors varsity, sub-varsity and freshmen athletes in cross country, football, team tennis and volleyball.Tickets for the banquet, which includes a barbecue dinner, are $10 for adults and $5 for students and will be on sale at the high school beginning Tuesday.
