In a spirit of unity and spiritual awareness between the cities of Temple and Belton, the first Mayor's Community New Year's Prayer Service was held Sunday at the Frank W. Mayborn Civic and Convention Center with about 200 attending.A number of community leaders from the area participated in the prayer service, which was led by the Rev. Roscoe Harrison of Temple.Both Temple mayor Keifer Marshall Jr. and Belton mayor Bill Holmes sponsored the event along with the CARE Network of Bell County. CARE Network is a local alliance formed as part of President Bush's Faith-Based Initiative.Linell Davis sang the National Anthem after the Temple Police Department color guard presented the U.S. and Texas flags.Businessmen, youth and school leaders as well as pastors of area churches followed by leading those present in congregate prayers for the nation, the world, the U.S. military, our youth, schools and political leaders.The service also paid special tribute to local police, EMS and firefighters. by Larry Hutchinson | |
