Panel to be formed to study Gulf War illness Published: January 23, 2002
WASHINGTON (AP) Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Principi is turning to some of the harshest critics of government research into Gulf War illness to advise the agency on future studies. Principi is forming a panel to help direct research into illnesses experienced by American soldiers who served in the 1990-91 war with Iraq, the VA said Tuesday. Principi was to announce the panel and its appointed members at a news conference Wednesday. The move is another nod by the Bush administration to Gulf War veterans, many of whom accuse the government of dragging its feet in finding a cause and treatment for their mysterious illnesses.
