There's an end in sight, encouraged Assistant City Manager Sam Listi, referring to the tight water supply in Temple. Listi is optimistic about there being an end, and city crews can see it coming, but it's still uncertain as to when. In spite of diligent efforts to repair the line, a leak was discovered in the newly repaired line late Saturday afternoon that necessitated delaying a predicted end to the water shortage in Temple. Crews had repaired the line and expected it to be functional by midnight Saturday. That was not realized when a leak was discovered Saturday afternoon. by Carolan Wishall
In the midst of the city water crisis, those giving out the water and those receiving it have demonstrated a rather cheerful, cavalier attitude. Take Station No. 3, for example (Oakdale and Thornton Lane, not a water dispensation site). Friday night a 93-year-old woman called asking for directions, related Lonzo Wallace, Temple fire chief. "The guys loaded up some bottled water and took it over," he said. And at the downtown tanker (on loan by Temple Bottling Co.), Mrs. M.J. Morris of Temple asked parks and leisure worker Daniel Davis if he was "guarding the gold." by Larry Causey
